NORFOLK SOUTHERN ADDS PREMIUM SERVICE FOR PAPER PRODUCTS    Norfolk Southern Railway said it has launched a premium service that enables shippers and receivers of paper products to better manage their supply chains.
   NS's Thoroughbred EXTRA service combines NS's scheduled railroad operations with a network of 22 certified paper distribution centers and an inventory management system, Modalgistics ModalView, to tailor services for moving newsprint, woodpulp, pulpboard and printing paper.
   Besides traditional rail service, Thoroughbred EXTRA provides shipment tracking, inventory management and warehouse management.
   Customers can choose to receive a single source, end-to-end view of their inventories and locate their shipments anywhere in the supply chain at any time.
   The service's paper distribution centers provide fully integrated logistics services include just-in-time delivery, order fulfillment and freight consolidation. NS said the service also enables customers to streamline and automate billing, freight payment, invoicing and other back-office services.
   NS said it is offering incentives this month for customers moving new shipments of paper products from any Norfolk Southern-served paper mill to any thoroughbred EXTRA distribution center.
