Norfolk Southern declares force majeure in Midwest due to snowstorm

Norfolk Southern has declared force majeure in the Midwest region due to the severe winter storm.

The railroad said that traffic moving to and from the areas between Kansas City, Mo.; Decatur, Ill.; and Bellevue, Ohio; and between Chicago, Ill., Cleveland, and Pittsburgh, 'may incur significant delays.'

Force majeure is a common clause in contracts that frees one or both parties from liability or obligation when an extraordinary event or circumstance beyond control prevents one or both parties from fulfilling contractual obligations.
