NRS joins CargoNet
   National Retail Systems said last week it has joined CargoNet, a clearinghouse for cargo theft reports and recovery efforts launched this year by Verisk Analytics' subsidiary Insurance Services Office.
   NRS joins 10 insurance companies as charter members of the national information-sharing network. Last month, third-party logistics provider OHL joined CargoNet as a regular member. LG Electronics is also participating in the network.
   Charter members provide financing and sit on the company's advisory board.
   CargoNet manages a database of registered equipment and theft reports from law enforcement and industry partners. It issues alerts when cargo is stolen, notifies law enforcement agencies, and compiles analytical reports of trends it sees in the theft data. It also has a lookout program for thieves at truck stops modeled on Neighborhood Watch and offers various types of theft prevention training.
   Anyone can report thefts to CargoNet, but there is a fee to access the reports.
