NRS opens cross-dock facility

NRS opens cross-dock facility National Retail Systems Inc. has opened a new 176-door cross-dock facility in Pooler, Ga., three miles from the Port of Savannah.
   The company last week held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the facility, which is designed for high-speed, high-volume transloading. The facility is located on 52 acres and will be capable of processing several hundred thousand containers per year. It will employ about 200.
   Raymond Wisniewski, president and chief operating officer of NRS, said his company expected the importance of the Port of Savannah to increase as the Panama Canal is widened.
   He also said, “having distribution facilities near the major gateways is more efficient, more environmentally sensitive and better for truck drivers.”
