NYK Group stages attack on LNG carrier in anti-terrorism exercise Nippon Yusen Kaisha, a Japanese marine transportation company, and its affiliated NYK Shipmanagement unit, based in Singapore, simulated an attack on NYK's LNG carrier 'Jamal' as part of a joint maritime antiterrorism training exercise with the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore.
   'The exercise was undertaken on the assumption that the MPA had obtained information about a terrorist plan that an unidentified ship would attack the 112,069-gross-ton 'Jamal,' which was anchored off the coast of Singapore,' NYK said in a statement.
   Each related party, including the ship and the MPA, followed designated security plans to strengthen emergency liaisons. The training session included 'a simulated emergency situation where patrol boats blocked and chased a suspicious ship which was approaching the LNG 'Jamal' at high speed,' NYK explained.
   NYK, which has promulgated maritime antiterrorist policies, held the training exercise 'due to the continuing instability in Iraq and Russia,' the company noted.
