NYK launches social responsibility unit

Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kaisha group has set up a new corporate social responsibility unit from April 1.

The “CSR Chamber” has been placed within NYK’s management coordination group, which is charged with “formulating management guidelines.”

The mega-carrier said that in order to cover all segments of NYK, a CSR committee, with the CSR chamber as its secretariat, has also been established on an across-the-board basis.

In future, for any of NYK’s CSR-related activities a review will first be undertaken with respect to the specific content of social responsibility for NYK. The scope of NYK’s CSR-related activities will be confirmed, while an action program will be drawn up, said NYK.

NYK said it has received inquiries from diverse stakeholders both at home and abroad. In order to rightly fulfill its accountability for such matters, NYK said it will disclosure information both internally and externally and further promote the transparency of management.

At the same time, NYK will reexamine the direction in which it should proceed in the years ahead, the carrier said.
