NYK, port of Dalian sign cooperation agreement

NYK, port of Dalian sign cooperation agreement    China’s Dalian Port Corp. and Tokyo-based Nippon Yusen Kaisha have signed a memorandum of understanding on future cooperation involving container terminals and other transport aspects in the port of Dalian.
   NYK wants to broaden its activities in the northeast Chinese port, having already established last December an automobile terminal joint venture company. The automobile terminal venture, Dalian Automobile Terminal Co. Ltd., involves NYK, Dalian Port Corp. and COSCO Pacific Ltd. and will build and operate a dedicated terminal for completed automobiles at the port.
   “Dalian is a major urban city for the three northeastern provinces of China and, as the hub of the northeastern industrial region, (is) also one of the leading cities in China,” NYK said.
   It said the function of terminal and harbor transport services “is becoming increasingly important in terms of stable door-to-door services.”
   NYK intends to seek cooperation and partnerships with other Chinese ports.
