NYK strengthens safety measures

NYK strengthens safety measures NYK recently hosted a series of conferences in Shanghai and Tokyo on safety measures when shipping dangerous goods.
   The company expressed concerned about fires and accidents that may occur as a result of false declaration, especially in light of the increasing amount of cargo being shipped from Asia and the growing size of containerships.
   NYK began a carriage of dangerous goods by sea campaign in September, which encourages strengthening measures to prevent shipments of dangerous goods that have been falsely declared.
   The company said it has enhanced checks when booking shipments of dangerous goods and chemicals, has introduced an online e-learning program for the handling of dangerous goods, and established a dangerous goods help desk.
   The UK P&I Club participated in the conferences as guest speakers.
