NYK to charter out VLCCs to ExxonMobil, China Oil

   Tokyo-based Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha has concluded separate charter contracts for two 300,000-deadweight-ton very large crude carrier’s (VLCC) with the Exxon Mobil Corp. (ExxonMobil) and China National United Oil Corp. (China Oil).

   For ExxonMobil, NYK will deliver a new vessel constructed by Mitsui Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., and for China Oil, NYK will provide a new vessel constructed by Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS). Construction of both ships is scheduled to be completed during the first half of 2007.

   NYK said it has 33 VLCCs in service and plans to increase this number to around 40 in the near future.
