NYK to transfer Africa, Latin America operations

NYK to transfer Africa, Latin America operations    Japanese Nippon Yusen Kaisha will transfer most of its Africa and Central and South America container shipping operations from Tokyo to individual regional offices, effective March 2007.
   Following the transfer, planning and accounting operations for Africa and East Coast South America routes will be controlled from a new trade headquarters in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A new trade headquarters in Santiago in Chile will be in charge of Central and West Coast South America services.
   “The company aims to provide higher quality transportation services to its customers by operating and planning services at a physically closer location in line with economic growth in these regions,” NYK said.
   NYK said it will also transfer the marketing operations for Asian imports and exports to a regional headquarters in Hong Kong, and establish a vessel operations center in Singapore.
