NYK’s December headhaul up marginally

   The liner carrier NYK’s eastbound transpacific volume rose 7 percent year-on-year in December, and 3 percent in the last quarter of 2011, the line said in an operational update this week.
   The Japanese line’s volume hit 1.6 million TEUs in the fourth quarter (the carrier’s third quarter financial year), and 540,000 TEUs in December.
   For its fiscal year-to-date (April through December), eastbound transpacific volume is even year-on-year, at 5 million TEUs.
   On the westbound Asia-Europe trade, volume was even in the fourth quarter of 2011, at 1.2 million TEUs. In December, volume was up 3 percent, at 380,000 TEUs. Fiscal year-to-date, NYK’s headhaul Asia-Europe volume is up 1 percent, at 3.9 million TEUs.
