Obama appoints Cordero, Dye to FMC

   President Obama on Friday nominated attorney Mario Cordero to the Federal Maritime Commission, and Rebecca F. Dye for another term as commissioner.
   Cordero is in private practice and serving his second term on the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners ,where the White House said he had “spearheaded the port’s pioneering Green Port Policy.” During his first term, Cordero served as vice president and president of the board.
   Cordero is also a part-time professor of political science at Long Beach City College. He sat on the Long Beach Community Development Commission and served as vice chair of the Long Beach Ethics Review Task Force.
Dye
   Dye was originally confirmed as a FMC commissioner on Nov. 14, 2002, and reconfirmed on July 22, 2005.
   This year she has served as the head of the FMC’s fact-finding investigation on vessel capacity and equipment availability in the U.S. export and import liner trades.
   Dye began her federal career as a commissioned officer and attorney in the U.S. Coast Guard, and also served as a law instructor at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. After two years as an attorney with the U.S. Maritime Administration, she joined the staff of the former Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she served as minority counsel from 1987 to 1995. She was counsel to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure from 1995 to 2002, handling legislative issues related to international ocean shipping, maritime safety and law enforcement, and other maritime matters.
