Oceanside Coca-Cola facility workers join Teamsters

Oceanside Coca-Cola facility workers join Teamsters Employees at an Oceanside Coca-Cola bottling and distribution center have voted to unionize, electing the International Brotherhood of Teamsters as their bargaining representatives.
   Results of the secret ballot, conducted last week by the National Labor Relations board last Thursday, revealed that a majority of the 75 eligible workers at the facility approved joining the union. Teamsters Local 683 will now represent the workers.
   Employees at the facility that transferred from unionized Coca-Cola facilities retained their union representation and benefits and were not eligible to vote in the ballot.
   The facility, owned by Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Southern California, opened on Jan. 22 as a non-union workplace.
   The operators of the facility, while not encouraging employees to vote for the union, issued statements supportive of the workers right to vote on the issue.
   The Teamsters Union currently represents more than 14,000 Coca-Cola employees nationwide.
