Officials continue to probe Dominican customs fraud
Customs officials from the U.S. are expected to work with the Dominican Customs Agency (DGA) in a widening probe of alleged customs fraud involving extensive cargo misdeclarations, according to a report in Dominican Today.
The report said the DGA is working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to create a list of all the companies involved in shipments where misdeclarations have been uncovered. The report said 287 containers have been targeted in the probe, in which items like electronic appliances and liquor have been declared as raw materials moving into free zones.
The report said arrest warrants have been issued against some 30 customs officials and executives from import/export companies.
