OLD DOMINION PICKS DESCARTES ROUTING SOLUTION    Old Dominion Freight Lines, a 68-year-old less-than-truckload carrier serving 38 states, has contracted with the Descartes Systems Group Inc., a provider of logistics solutions, for software to improve scheduling.
   The LTL carrier, which operates a fleet of 2,600 trucks, selected two Descartes applications: Fleetwise Dispatch and Fleetwise Route Planner, thereby expanding a prior relationship with the provider.
   “By leveraging Descartes Fleetwise in our operations, we anticipate a 10-percent efficiency gain while continuing to improve our on-time delivery performance,” said David Congdon, Old Dominion’s president and chief operating officer.
   While some routing applications are focused as point solutions that coordinate dispatch and driver communications for single users, Descartes' Fleetwise solution enables the real-time collaboration of multiple customer service representatives, drivers and dispatchers to synchronize information about delivery.
