OÆLeary named Alaska RailroadÆs interim CEO
The Alaska Railroad Corp. board has appointed Chief Financial Officer Bill O'Leary to serve as acting chief executive officer of the rail carrier, effective April 1.
CEO Pat Gamble is scheduled to leave the railroad to become president of the University of Alaska, starting June 1. He served nearly nine years at the Anchorage-based railroad, where he's credited with tripling the assets from $252 million in 2001 to more than $860 million by the end of 2009. Net earnings also more than doubled over the same period.
During previous leadership transitions at the Alaska Railroad, it's common for the CFO to become the acting CEO, the board said.
The board will meet again on April 1 to discuss the details for establishing an executive search process for a new president/CEO.
