OOCL adds 8,063-TEU ship to transpacific

Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas Container Line will add a newly built 8,063-TEU ship, the “OOCL Hamburg,” to one of its transpacific services.

The new ship was named Friday at the Geoje shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea.

OOCL said the “OOCL Hamburg” will be employed in the Super Shuttle Express service of the Grand Alliance, to which the carrier belongs. This transpacific service has a rotation of Port Kelang, Singapore, Yantian, Hong Kong, Long Beach, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Shekou, Singapore and Port Kelang.

The new vessel is the fourth of a series of 12 “SX-class” 8,063-TEU vessels that OOCL has ordered from Samsung.
