OOCL phases new ship into intra European loop

Hong Kong’s Orient Overseas Container Line is phasing in the new 840-TEU OOCL Moscow into its dedicated intra European SBX1 service.

The vessel joins two 600-TEU ships on the service, which has a “butterfly” rotation of St. Petersburg, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Hamburg, St. Petersburg, Gdansk, Hamburg, Gdansk and back to St. Petersburg. The service carries containers both on intra-Europe routes between these ports, and for relay via north continental ports to and from Asia and North America.

The SBX1 compliments OOCL’s SBX2 service, using three 600-TEU ice class vessels calling Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Helsinki, Kotka, St. Petersburg, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Klaipeda, Soedertalalji, Rauma, Gaevle and Amsterdam.

OOCL said the OOCL Moscow is notable for being the only box ship to load containers in Asia for direct discharge in St. Petersburg without any relay in North Europe on its positioning voyage from Asia. It is also the first container vessel named after Russia’s capital city.
