The line said that beginning Jan. 1, rates for cargo transiting ports in Canada, the U.S. East and Gulf coasts, and Mexico will be increased $320 per TEU and $400 per FEU. Rates for cargo moving through U.S. West Coast ports will rise $480 per TEU and $600 per FEU.
'Ocean freight rates continue to be below the required level to cover basic operating costs or transportation costs,' the line said in a statement. 'The current levels are unsustainable for the long term.'
