OOCL’s revenue per TEU down in 4th quarter, year

OOCLÆs revenue per TEU down in 4th quarter, year Hong Kong-based OOCL saw average revenue per TEU decrease in the fourth quarter and full year, according to unaudited results reported by parent company Orient Overseas (International) Ltd.
   OOCL's quarterly revenue increased 8.3 percent to $1.1 billion, but its average revenue per TEU decreased 5.9 percent as the carrier's global volumes jumped 15 percent to 1.04 million TEUs.
   OOCL's overall load factor was 2.7 percent higher than in the same quarter 2005 while its loadable capacity increased 12.2 percent.
   The biggest gain in revenue in the quarter came from the intra-Asia/Australasia market with a 17.8 percent rise to $295.9 million. The trade recorded a 19.2 percent increase in box volumes to 472,115 TEUs.
   OOCL's next biggest revenue gain came in the Asia/Europe trade, which improved 17.2 percent to $231.1 million and posted the largest volume rise, up 26.2 percent to 182,569 TEUs.
   In the transatlantic, OOCL's revenue rose 9.6 percent to $146.2 million with volume in that market up 6.2 percent to 87,572 TEUs.
   Revenue from the transpacific dropped 1.6 percent in the fourth quarter to $431.5 million although volume went improved 5.8 percent to 293,568 TEUs.
   For the whole year, OOCL's revenue improved 5.6 percent to $4.25 billion with liftings up 10.5 percent to 3.89 million TEUs, resulting in an average revenue per TEU drop of 4.5 percent.
   The overall load factor was comparable with that of 2005 despite a 10.8 percent increase in loadable capacity, OOIL said.
