OOIDA SUPPORTS PETITION TO U.S. SUPREME COURT

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association said it supports a member’s petition to the U.S. Supreme Court to review the constitutionality of collecting fuel taxes on toll roads.

The plaintiff, Max Anderson, of Muncie, Ind., filed suit against the state of Indiana for a tax refund on fuel taxes he has had to pay. Anderson’s efforts represents continued efforts by OOIDA in lawsuits filed against New York, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana.

“As more states eye toll roads as a viable option, trucks are an easy and convenient target,” said Tim Johnston, president of OOIDA. “Success in this litigation could mean the refund to owner-operators and motor carriers of several years of fuel taxes paid on miles driven on toll roads.”
