OVERNITE INCOME DOUBLES

OVERNITE INCOME DOUBLES    Overnite Transportation Co., the Richmond, Va.-based less-than-truckload carrier, reported new income for the third quarter of $16 million, doubling the $7.5 million reported for the third quarter of 1999.
   Operating income rose 140 percent to $19.7 million and operating revenues rose 3.8 percent to $87.1 million.
   The company's operating ratio for the third quarter was 93.2, 3.9 points better than the year-earlier period and the lowest operating ratio since 1994.
   For the first nine months of 2000, Overnite reported net income of $29.9 million, up 8.4 percent, on net revenue of $839 million, up 4.5 percent. The operating ratio was 95.6 percent, slightly better than the year-earlier period.
