PANALPINA ACQUIRES SWISS LOGISTICS FIRM    Swiss forwarder Panalpina has acquired Avalog AG, a Swiss logistics information technology firm, from SAirGroup, the parent company of airline Swissair.
   Headquartered in Glattbrugg, near Zurich, Avalog is a supplier of logistics consulting and management services. Its activities include the development of information technology products.
   Panalpina said that the company’s role within the group will be to design and implement new logistics and supply chain management solutions.
   Marco Blum will remain Avalog’s managing director after the acquisition.
   The sale of Avalog to Panalpina by SAirGroup will be seen as another step in the close cooperation between the two groups. Last year, the two Swiss companies formed a jointly-owned air cargo company, SwissGlobalCargo, to sell door-to-door air freight services with time-definite guarantees to shippers.
