Panalpina takes Japan freight in-house    Global logistics company Panalpina said Monday it will take over air and ocean freight operations in Japan from a subsidiary of the NYK Group, starting in January.
   Since February 2007, Panalpina has had an arrangement with Yusen Air & Sea Service, where Yusen has served as Panalpina's freight forwarding agent for air and ocean freight shipments in Japan while Panalpina in turn represented Yusen in several foreign markets.
   From January, that arrangement will change, with Panalpina taking control of shipments within Japan. But Panalpina will continue to serve as an agent for Yusen in 23 countries in Latin America, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. In November, Panalpina Japan will start issuing freight invoices and arrival notices for ocean import shipments.
   'An even stronger presence in the Japanese market under the Panalpina brand supports our global strategy with focus on global supply chain management solutions,' said Panalpina Chief Executive Officer Monika Ribar. 'In addition we can further strengthen our network.'
