Panama Canal completes locks maintenance

The Panama Canal Authority said Monday that scheduled maintenance work on one of the chamber in the Gatun Locks has been completed.

The work included maintenance in four of the lock gates in the west chamber of the locks on the Atlantic side of the canal. The work required the draining of the locks chamber. Lock gates and valves also underwent a system of corrosion protection.

The work started on August 15 and was completed on August 20. Canal customers were notified of the maintenance work as much as a year in advance to minimize the impacts of delays.
