Panama sets meeting on canal’s future
Panamanian President Mart'n Torrijos will lead a “Town Hall” meeting tonight to help determine the future of the Panama Canal.
The Panama Canal Authority has an expansion plan in the works that will have a heavy impact on North American shipping services. But the final plan’ s implementation will require a referendum vote of Panamanians. The Town Hall meeting intends to allow public input into the final planning process.
In addition to Torrijos, key officials at the session will include Ricaurte V'squez, Panama’s minister of Economy and Finance, and Alberto Alem'n Zubieta, administrator and chief executive officer of the Panama Canal Authority.
