PANY/NJ OFFERS REAL-TIME SHIPPING INFORMATION
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has released FIRST, a Web site that provides real-time information on ship arrivals and cargo status at the port. Freight Information Real-time System for Transport, FIRST, is a system developed by America Systems Inc. of Murray Hill, N.J.
The new system provides ocean carriers, importers, exporters, freight forwarders, customs brokers, terminal operators and rail and truck providers with data needed to make decisions about cargo pickup and delivery.
Currently, seven members of the port community are providing data to the FIRST Web site. These companies include, Atlantic Container Lines, American Stevedoring Inc., Hapag-Lloyd, Maersk Sealand Terminal, NYK Line, Port Newark Container Terminal and Zim-Israeli American Line.
