About $17 million of the contract work is related to the ports' trucking re-regulation program, which launched last week. Tetra Tech will provide administrative, technical and environmental support for the ports' truck program, according to a release Tuesday.
Tetra Tech will also provide technical assistance to both ports under air quality services, environmental assessment and remediation contracts.
The five-year truck program seeks to cut ports-generated pollution by modernizing trucks in the ports' drayage fleet through grants, subsidies and incentives to motor carriers. On Oct. 1, both ports implemented key components of their slightly differing versions of the truck program, including a ban on all pre-1989 model year truck.
Tetra Tech will serve as each port's long-term truck program administrator. This work will include development and operation of an electronic truck database, issuing motor carriers certifications under the truck program requirements, performing compliance checks of motor carriers and processing grant applications.
The ports each authorized a three-year contract with Tetra Tech to serve as the port's truck program administrator not to exceed $8.4 million.
