PASHA-VAN OMMEREN VENTURE RESUMES WORK ON CAR CARRIER

PASHA-VAN OMMEREN VENTURE RESUMES WORK ON CAR CARRIER

Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines, a joint venture between The Pasha Group and Van Ommeren Shipping (USA) LLC, said it had resumed construction of the 580-foot car-and-truck carrier “Jean Anne” at VT Halter Marine’s shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss.

Construction financing of the “Jean Anne” is guaranteed under the U.S. Maritime Administration’s Title XI loan program.

Work on the ship stopped for more than 18 months after a previous shipyard filed for bankruptcy protection. VT Halter Marine has since acquired the shipyard and negotiated an agreement with Pasha and Van Ommeren Shipping to complete the “Jean Anne” by the fall of 2004.

The vessel will have a capacity of about 4,000 vehicles, said Gary Kaliher, a spokesman for The Pasha Group.
