Pasir Panjang Terminal continues expansion

The project will increase the Port of Singapore’s capacity by 50 percent, allowing the port to handle 50 million TEUs annually, PSA Singapore Terminals said.    The Pasir Panjang Terminal, operated by PSA Singapore Terminals, has officially began phases three and four of the container terminal’s expansion project.
   PSA Singapore Terminals said in a statement the $3.5 billion expansion will allow the terminal to serve the next generation of mega container ships, and will increase the port’s capacity by 50 percent to 50 million TEUs annually.
   The project, which will add 6,000 meters of quay length with up to 18 meters of draft, is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2017.
   Phases three and four will feature a fully-automated electric yard crane system.
   “Such technologies will help raise port productivity, enhance PSA’s ability to manage greater business complexity and create more higher skill-based career opportunities,” said PSA Singapore Terminals.
   In addition to further developing the Pasir Panjang Terminal, PSA is working with the Singapore government to develop the future Tuas Port, a mega container port with a designed annual capacity of 65 million TEUs.
