Pennsylvania plan to toll I-80 advances A plan to turn Interstate 80, a major east-west highway in Pennsylvania, into a toll road advanced this week.
   Under a deal announced Tuesday, The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission are applying to the Federal Highway Administration to toll the roadway.
   Its expected tolls will mirror those on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Currently they are about 6 cents per mile for passenger cars but are expected to rise to about 8 cents a mile. That would make the cost of driving the entire 311-mile highway about $25 for a passenger car.
   Truck tolls vary by weight, but press reports give estimates that large trucks crossing the entire state on I-80 will pay $300-$400.
   The state said the plan would allow the Turnpike Commission to generate about $83.3 billion for PennDOT for transportation projects throughout the state.
