Perkins to emphasize role of U.S. merchant marine at naval war school

   Retired Vice Adm. James B. Perkins, former commander of the U.S. Military Sealift Command and advisor to the American Maritime Congress, has been appointed to the Emory S. Land chair for merchant marine affairs at the U.S. Naval War College.

   In this position, Perkins will develop courses about the merchant marine, the maritime industry and strategic sealift for naval and military officers and senior government employees enrolled in the Navy’s center for strategic security policy.

   Perkins will place special emphasis on the Maritime Administration’s role in assuring access to commercial sealift and the readiness of U.S. government-owned cargo ships.
