PERUVIAN PORT WORKERS GO ON STRIKE    Peruvian ports went on strike on Thursday to protest against a decision by President Alejandro Toledo to veto a law to regulate dock work.
   The law would have reinstalled a legal framework in the Peruvian ports that was in place until former President Fujimori took power. “The law establishes the obligation to create a registry and a system of rotation that grants all stevedores the right to work in a fair and equitable way,” the Peruvian union Federaci'n Nacional de Trabajadores Mar'timos y Portuarios del Per' said.
   The union reported that stevedoring and tally port workers and some truck drivers have started a 48-hour work stoppage in the 10 largest Peruvian ports.
   “The ports of Pucallpa, Paita, Salaverry, Chimbote, Supe, Huacho, Callao, Pisco, Mollendo and Ilo have suspended all operations,” a union spokesman said.
