Pests found on Puerto Rico flower imports

In the past several weeks, agricultural specialists in San Juan, Puerto Rico, have intercepted more Thrips on shipments of cut flowers from Colombia than usual, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.
Common names for thrips include thunderflies, thunderbugs, storm flies, thunderblights and corn lice. Thrips species feed on plants and vegetables by puncturing them and sucking up the contents, causing discoloration, deformities and reducing their marketability.
