PETCO set to open Atlanta-area DC
San Diego-based pet supply retailer PETCO plans to open a $33 million distribution center in Braselton, Ga., 40 miles northeast of Atlanta.
The retailer, which anticipates the center will create 277 jobs, will receive about $2.5 million in job tax credits from the state of Georgia.
The 506,240-square-foot Class A industrial building is located in the Braselton Business Park and features 88 docks, four drive-ins, natural gas heat, city water and sewer, and 30-foot clear height. Sears Logistics Services, the delivery arm of Sears, Roebuck and Co., had leased the building since 2005.
PETCO will use the facility to serve more than 200 retail outlets in the South. The retailer has 850 stores in 49 states and the District of Columbia, including 15 in Georgia.
The firm has been working with the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and other economic development partners since 2005 to find a suitable location for the center.
