PHILIPS TENDERS EUROPEAN DISTRIBUTION CONTRACTS ON THE INTERNET    The Dutch group Philips Lighting BV is implementing an Internet-based distribution software, Manugistics NetWORKS(TM), to enhance its European-wide transportation and distribution operations.
   Philips will use the software to tender each distribution contract across the Internet to its third-party logistics providers in real time. This will then enable the most suitably placed 3PL to distribute Philips’ products anywhere in Europe.
   More than 100 3PLs distribute the company’s products through its distribution network to European clients.
   Manugistics Group, Inc., the provider of the software, said that Philips expects to lower transportation costs, decrease delivery times and improve customer service by using the e-business system.
