Voice of America quoted a spokesman for the owners of the ship as saying a ransom had been paid and the pirates were counting and dividing up the money aboard the Faina in the Gulf of Aden.
About 20 Ukrainian, Russian and Latvian crewmembers had been held on the ship.
Pirates seized the ship as it headed to Kenya with its cargo of 30 Russian-made tanks, ammunition and other military hardware that was bound for Kenya.
