'Duration of track closure is still unknown, pending the military's assessment and permission to access the site,' the railroad said in statement on Friday.
Freight train traffic has been temporarily suspended until the tracks can be repaired. Movement of several freight trains carrying fuel, coal, gravel and general freight are delayed, the railroad said.
According to press reports, this is the first C-17 to have crashed since the plane joined the Air Force fleet in 1995.
