PMSA opens office in Seattle

PMSA opens office in Seattle    The Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA), an association of U.S. West Coast terminal operators and shipping lines, is opening an office in Seattle.
   Mike Moore, a former U.S. Coast Guard captain with extensive experience in West Coast port operations, will direct the Seattle-based office. Moore was captain of the port for the Puget Sound region and led field operations for the area after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks prior to his retirement from the service two years ago. He then served as executive director for the Puget Sound Steamship Operators Association.
   The PMSA said its members want to be more engaged in the public policy issues that affect the maritime industry. In the state of Washington, the association will represent maritime interests on the need for highway and rail improvements, and other issues that affect safe, secure, efficient and environmentally sound movement of cargo, a spokesman said. The association will collaborate with other trade associations, labor and the ports.
   The PMSA is based in San Francisco, Calif.
