P&O Nedlloyd introduces ISPS global surcharge

P&O Nedlloyd Container Line is adding a new “carrier security surcharge,” applicable to all shipments worldwide, to offset the cost of implementing the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code of the International Maritime Organization.

Effective Jan. 1, the security surcharge will be $6 per container. This is the same amount Maersk Sealand applied in October, also on a global basis.

In addition, “origin and destination terminal security charges” will be passed on to customers as and when they are applied to the ocean carrier by terminal operators and port authorities, P&O Nedlloyd said in a statement.
