Port Canaveral unveils mobile security command post

Port Canaveral Wednesday unveiled its new mobile command post, a converted bus that can to be used by port security officials and other local law enforcement and public safety entities.

The unit will be used during emergency operations, and can also be used for standard special events such as SeaFest, Port Weekend or fishing tournaments, port officials said.

The command post will house port staff, law enforcement officials, and other agencies during emergency operations and events.

In addition, the port showed off Segways it will use at cruise terminals and as part of daily port operations. Segways are the two-wheeled, transportation devices used to move individuals that steer the units from a standing position.

Port officials said Port Canaveral is among the first seaports to use a mobile command post and Segways to assist with operations.
