Port Everglades architect greens up credentials

Port Everglades architect greens up credentials Sari Berlin, Port Everglades staff architect, has earned her accreditation in an environmental program designed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Sari Berlin

Berlin, a licensed architect with the seaport engineering and construction division of the county Public Works and Transportation Department at Port Everglades, has been designated as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP) by the council. The program was designed by the building council to set national environmental standards for building projects under a 'Green Building Rating System.'
LEED promotes a 'whole building approach' to sustainability by recognizing performance in five area of human and environmental health:
   ' Sustainable site development.
   ' Water savings.
   ' Energy efficiency.
   ' Materials selection.
   ' Indoor environmental quality.
Port director Phil C. Allen said Berlin's training will help the port reach new environmental standards as it grows.
'As Port Everglades moves rapidly toward completion of its master plan update, we hope to apply the knowledge that Sari brings during the construction or renovation of buildings at the port,' Allen said. 'As custodians of one of the most diverse ecosystems in the country, Port Everglades remains steadfast in its dedication to careful and ecologically sound growth.'
