Port Everglades launches security promotion

Port Everglades is promoting a program to have anyone working at the port serve as additional eyes for security.

The port's 'Security is Everyone's Business' campaign follows the belief that 'vigilance is the key to detecting and deterring potential acts of terrorism or illegal activity.'

The port is encouraging people to immediately report suspicious activities, including individuals with no badges in restricted areas, individuals taking photos in industrial areas, small vessels near ships or docks, vendors without port permits, low-flying private aircraft, abandoned packages or vehicles, thefts, or individuals who seem to be acting oddly.

Suspicious activities should be reported to the Sheriff's Office located at the port by calling (954) 765-4511, or the U.S. Coast Guard at (954) 927-1611.
