Port Everglades readies for new master plans

Port Everglades readies for new master plans Port Everglades has retained the services of a nationally recognized engineering and planning firm to prepare a comprehensive, five-year master plan, as well as 'vision plans' looking ahead for 10 years and 20 years.
The port will use DMJM Harris, which has headquarters offices in both New York and Los Angeles to prepare the master plan, the port's first since 2001.
'We know that reaching a balance between financial stability, capital development and security operations is achievable.    It is our hope that the updated Port Everglades Master Plan will plot a course for how we can expand and enhance existing facilities in the most economical and efficient manner,' Port Everglades Director Phillip C. Allen said in a statement Tuesday.
The master plan will look at changes that have taken place at the regional, national and international level since 2001, when the port produced its 2020 Vision Master Plan.
DMJM Harris will incorporate changing business trends into the master plan, as well as security requirements in the post-9/11 world. The report will also identify new opportunities and constraints facing the port.
The master plan will also include recommendations for a current study of the port's petroleum facilities. That study is being conducted by the international energy consultant Purvin & Gertz, Inc.
