Port Manatee gifts to salute troops

Port Manatee gifts to salute troops Port Manatee has kicked off the Port Manatee 2007 Holiday Troop Salute, a program that will send supplies and gifts to members of the military serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
   'Port Manatee is offering a way to give back to the brave men and women in uniform by sending a little slice of home to troops when they need it most,' a statement from the port said.
   The program is being conducted in cooperation with the national AdoptaPlatoon Soldier Support Effort, which collects donated items to ship to active-duty troops.
   Items being collected for the project can be dropped off at Port Manatee's Access Control Center at the north entrance on Piney Point Road through Nov. 27. Donations will be sorted into care packages during a party at the Port Manatee Cruise Terminal, Nov. 28. The goods will be shipped out in time to arrive overseas during December.
