Port of Boston sets box volume record in August

For the port’s 2016 fiscal year, the Paul W. Conley Container Terminal handled 247,329 TEUs, a 12 percent increase from the 2015 fiscal year.    The Port of Boston’s Paul W. Conley Container Terminal set an all-time monthly record in August with a throughput of 26,334 TEUs, the Massachusetts Port Authority said.
For the 2016 fiscal year, which ended June 30, 2016, the terminal handled 247,329 TEUs, a 12 percent increase from the 2015 fiscal year.
“The strategic planning and investment being done to keep the Port of Boston competitive and an East Coast leader is behind these record-breaking numbers,” Port of Boston Director Lisa Wieland said.
Looking ahead, the Port of Boston will be undergoing various upgrades thanks to funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s FASTLANE grant program, along with funding from the Economic Development Bill signed by Governor Charlie Baker in August.
The Conley Terminal will be upgraded with an additional berth and three new cranes, while the Boston Harbor will be dredged to accommodate 12,000-TEU vessels.
