Boston’s import volumes increased 12 percent to 83,925 TEUs, from 74,643 TEUs in 2003. Export shipments jumped 15 percent to 53,083 TEUs, from 45,987 the previous year. Empty containers moved were slightly less in 2004 at 37,341 TEUs compared to 37,411 TEUs in 2003.
Container moves in Boston average a net of 22 to 26 moves per hour, said the Massachusetts Port Authority.
