Port of Gothenburg volumes rise slightly

The number of cars handled during Q1 increased 20 percent, largely driven by growth at the Volvo Cars production facilities.    The Port of Gothenburg in southern Sweden handled around 188,000 TEUs during the first quarter of 2018, up 3 percent from last year’s first quarter, when a labor dispute at the port’s container terminal bogged down volumes.
   However, there has been no industrial action since last summer, according to Gothenburg Port Authority CEO Magnus Kårestedt.
   The number of cars handled during the quarter rose 20 percent year-over-year, largely driven by sustained growth at the Volvo Cars production facilities, with a subsequent rise in exports.
   BlueWater Reporting’s Port Dashboard tool shows the port is called by 14 liner services that also sail to countries besides Sweden, but only four of which also sail to regions outside Europe. Of the 14 services, 12 deploy fully cellular containerships, while two deploy pure car/truck carriers or roll-on/roll-off vessels.
