Port of Houston approves gate contract, financing proposal

Commissioners for the Port of Houston on Monday awarded an $869,824 contract to L.A. King Co to install a gate control system at the Barbours Cut Container Terminal as part of a $13-million project to reduce wait times for trucks entering the port and related emissions from idling.

In other moves, the commission voted to sell up to $14.5 million in bonds to help pay the cost of dredging the Houston ship channel and work with the Army Corps of Engineers to construct 12-foot barge channels along the main ship channel to separate slower barge traffic from ocean-going vessels.
