Port of L.A. to upgrade TraPac road

Port of L.A. to upgrade TraPac road    The Port of Los Angeles has approved a $17.7 million road construction contract to renovate a key access point to one of its container terminals.
   The project will see improvements made to a 1.3-mile stretch of Harry Bridges Boulevard in Wilmington. The street connects to the TraPac container terminal in the port.
   Port Executive Director Geraldine Knatz said the project will ease traffic congestion and improve access to the TraPac terminal.

   The port will use money from a federal grant as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. The road project received the largest single grant among $340 million in transportation funding awarded to projects in Los Angeles and neighboring Ventura counties.
   Most notably, the project will widen Harry Bridges Boulevard, a key street for drayage trucks connecting to local highways. Though the boulevard will remain two lanes in each direction, the space will be provided to add another lane in each direction if traffic volume demands it.
   Construction will start in March, though the port didn't give a date for completion.
